Friday night, in Anderson, SC, a man and his son hopped on a motorcycle and headed toward Highway 24. They had just left a meeting of the South Carolina chapter of the Defenders Motorcycle Club when they got into an accident. The South Carolina Highway Patrol was called to the scene of a tragic car accident 8 miles north of Anderson around 4:30pm Saturday. A 31-year-old mother of two was heading down Crestview Road in her 2009 Honda when she collided head-on with a Chevy Astro van. At the time of the crash the mother, a resident of Belton, was traveling with her two young children – her six-month-old son and two-year-old daughter. Pedestrian deaths in South Carolina have risen sharply since 2009, with five already reported in Columbia and 10 in Lexington County. Highway Patrol Captain Brad Hughes, who is commander of Troop One covering the Midlands area to include Richland, Lexington, and Kershaw counties, commented that these statistics reflect a significant increase of six more than last year.
