March One of Warmest on Record in South Carolina
According to the Weather Channel, March 2012 was the hottest March on record in about 80 cities around the US, mostly in the South and central parts of the country. Other parts of America also experienced near recording breaking temperatures – for places like Denver and New York, March was the 2nd hottest March on record. The unusually warm weather has lead to trees and plants blooming early, making pollen counts increase much to the anguish of allergy sufferers. A 58 year old Columbia man has died from injuries he sustained after being hit by a car on Broad River Road near Interstate-20. An eye witness claims the victim may have even been hit by a second car. This tragic incident—still under investigation by the South Carolina Highway Patrol—serves as a reminder for a problem that has spiked dangerously these past few years for South Carolina residents: pedestrian accidents. Around midnight on Saturday, Feb. 4, an accident on I-95 injured nine people. According to South Carolina Highway Patrol officials, two cars collided near the 55 mile marker in Colleton County on northbound on I-95. The same two vehicles veered into the path of an 18-wheeler, causing it to run off the road. The semi truck then crashed into several trees before flipping over and bursting into flames. New Year’s Day 2012 brought great sadness to one Lexington, South Carolina family after they lost their six-year-old daughter that morning. The little girl was killed by a drunk driver in her parent’s minivan as the family travelled to church.
